WEST MIDS ROAD TEAM

West Midlands Junior Road Team Programme - 2008

News Posted: 21 Feb 2008

We've received a detailed outline of a Junior Road programme being run by the British Cycling West Midlands region - see below for full details:

Introduction
The West Midlands Region is keen to provide an opportunity for Junior riders to compete in Regional teams in a programme of international and domestic road events. This has proven to be a great opportunity for riders to learn about and benefit from racing in a team environment, which they might not have the chance to do as individuals within their own clubs. The outline programme for 2008 has recently been approved, along with the selection criteria and administrative details. To ensure equity and participation opportunities for as many riders as possible, these details are now being circulated directly to all Junior riders in the region where possible, and also via wider circulation.

Programme of Events
One main event for which riders are invited is the Junior Tour of Ireland in July.

Selection Criteria
Selection is available to any Junior riders who live in the Region or are members of a West Midlands Region registered club. The regional selection panel consists of the overall Team co-ordinator Pete Mooney and other committee members John Crawford, and Stewart Felstead.

John Crawford will be managing the team for the JTOI. Any riders who are interested in being considered for team selection should keep John advised of their performances in the early part of the 2008 season, together with their contact details and information as follows -
Name, Telephone No, Email address, Club name, Racing category & Brief summary of their racing experience to date

John would also like to hear from the parents of riders that are able to provide assistance at this event, or any coach or trainee coach in the region, who wishes to support or gain experience from working with the team. In particular the teams participation in the JTOI cannot go ahead without a second vehicle and driver so any volunteers for this week long stage race are particularly welcome.

During the Event
For your general information, the team manager seeks to ensure that the riders obtain the maximum benefit from the experience. Daily team briefings are held at which details of the course and terrain are discussed and riders are asked for their comments and how they could enhance the team's chances of success. A debrief takes place usually after riders have had a rest and a meal, when any problems or successes are discussed, to provide a learning environment.

Cost Implications
The Region will cover all entry fees and all travelling costs from an agreed meeting point. All riders and team officials/helpers will be responsible for the costs of their own food and accommodation.

Further Information
If you require further details about any aspect of the JTOI, please contact John. We would ask that all West Midlands club members and officials encourage any keen Junior riders to contact John, so that there is maximum competition for selection for this great event.
